Makoto Usami, LL.D. is Professor of Philosophy and Public Policy at Kyoto University. Before joining the faculty at Kyoto, he has been a professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (2008-2013) and a visiting scholar at Harvard University (1997-1999). He was elected Vice President of Public Policy Studies Association, Japan (2010-2012) and currently serves as the President of the International Association of the Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy, Japan Devision. Usami is the author of three books and more than sixty journal articles and book chapters and a co-author of two textbooks, while editing six anthologies including Climate Justice (2019) and Global Justice (2014). He has extensively published on distributive justice and its applied areas such as intergenerational justice, global justice, and population ethics for many years, and he is currently working on philosophical issues surrounding artificial intelligence.
